I have been a proponent of single payer healthcare my entire adult life. I’ve been in healthcare for 27 years and over that time the need has become all the more clear. The data supporting a one payer system is clear and overwhelming. I often cite, and encourage people to read the OECD reports on global healthcare. Unfortunately I have found myself in the role of patient, struggling with chronic conditions greatly impacting both my function and quality of life. For the first time in my life I am barely working and thankfully able to buy a plan under the ACA. While I believe it to be a band aid that helps millions I know the only sustainable solution is single payer. I have reached out to our congressmen and am highly concerned at the email response from Senator Toomey. While I understand the normalcy of robo replies his reply to me was filled with “inaccuracies” and misconceptions. I understand the complexity of the system and know too well that there is no argument left when looking at the data. We can not sustain our system economically. The lobbying money has bought much propaganda as well as legislation that is undermining all of us.
